Streaming from Your Home Network with Reezn

Stream from your NAS or shared folders with Reezn: SMB setup, what plays well over Wi-Fi, and fixing buffering on local networks.

The setup: your files, everywhere

A NAS or a shared folder on a computer turns every screen in the house into a theater. The Reezn APK can browse network shares directly: no Plex server, no transcoding box, just your files over Wi-Fi.

Connecting to a share

In Reezn's library sources, add a network location and enter the server address, share name, and credentials if your share needs them. SMB is the protocol to use on home networks. Once added, the share browses like a local folder, with artwork and resume points working the same way.

What plays well over Wi-Fi

1080p H.264 is the sweet spot: modest bitrate, universal decoding. High-bitrate 4K remuxes can saturate weak Wi-Fi, especially on crowded 2.4 GHz. If a file buffers, the network is the bottleneck, not the app: move to 5 GHz or wire the server with ethernet.

Fixing local buffering

Three fixes in order: switch the phone to the 5 GHz band, reduce competing traffic (pause the cloud backup), and pre-download the file for the evening instead of streaming it. For a permanent fix, ethernet to the NAS removes Wi-Fi from the equation for the server side.

Reezn plus the TV

Combine network shares with the big screen two ways: cast from the phone with the Chromecast guide, or install directly via the Android TV guide and browse the share on the television itself. The latter is the smoothest household setup we have tested.

Format questions? The format guide lists what plays natively. Get the current build from the Reezn APK download page.

No server software, no transcoding: the Reezn APK plus a simple share is the minimalist home theater.

Quick answers

Do I need a media server like Plex?

No. Reezn reads network shares directly, so a simple SMB share on a NAS or computer is enough.

Why does 4K buffer but 1080p play fine?

Bitrate. 4K remuxes can exceed what your Wi-Fi delivers consistently; 5 GHz or ethernet fixes it.

Are my network credentials safe in the app?

They stay on your device for share access. Use a dedicated read-only share user for best practice.
